In the mid ‘00s there was a popular wave of American Synth Rock led by great bands like The Killers. The Bravery was one of these bands and they had a big hit with the song “An Honest Mistake”, which my wife Lisa Elkins loved right away and I came around to eventually. The two bands actually had kind of a blood feud after Brandon Flowers of The Killers mocked The Bravery as ‘second rate wannabes’. The Bravery in turn called Brandon Flowers a ‘little girl’. The bands later made up, realized there was room in the Synth Rock universe for both bands and lived happily ever after.
I licensed this track “The Bravest” to a music house around that time. I don’t know if I’d call it a sound alike, but it captures that Synth Rock sound. Every once in a while I get a royalty check from tracks like these. I recently got a very vague statement and modest ASCAP check for international placements. As much as I am a little disappointed I don’t see and hear the placements, it’s kind of nice knowing I have these little pieces of music out there in the ether.
